A Little History Lesson about the Original Adirondack Chair
The Adirondack Chair was originally built by a man named Thomas Lee, back in 1903. Mr. Lee owned a summer home up in the Adirondack Mountains in a town called Westport, in upstate N.Y.. He had a rather large family that would gather on his property and there was never enough seating.
Thomas Lee started to experiment building different kinds of chairs and testing them on his guests. The one that won his guests approval was one with a slanted back and seat and plenty of room on the arm rests.
These chairs were originally named Westport chairs, but later became known as Adirondack Chairs after the mountain region where Thomas Lee and family owned their home.
